Phew. Today was a big day for Piper (and for us). The move went fairly smooth. There was an issue during transport, that caused her to be in a lot of distress when we initially arrived at the new hospital. We were getting kind of worried for a while, because her heart rate was staying so high, and she was visibly working very hard to breathe.  Eventually she did calm down, and seemed to be acting like her normal self again by this afternoon. So far, all of the people we have met at the new place have been very kind. They seem to like Piper, also. I hope that they bond with her the way that her previous nurses have, so that we can have that extra level of comfort while entrusting her in their care. Distance-wise, it is about the same as going to Blythedale. It will be a bit more expensive paying the $8 toll over the GW each time. On the upside, there in an Ikea, and 2 malls in between. Actually, those factors will probably make the commute even more expensive, hahahah.  The photo below is after Piper was able to calm down and start playing again, like the cute little monkey that she is. We greatly appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers for Piper in connection with her latest transition. We have felt an incredible amount of support, and I’m sure that she has too.

On may 19th is the American Heart Association/NYRR Wall Street 5k. Come run it with us! Here is the NYRR Race Page. If you don’t feel like running it, but would still like to participate, there is also a walking section. If you will be working late that night, but would still like to donate to the AHA, here is the link for my team’s donation page.

I launched a new blog (yes, another one) where I am posting one photo per day. I have several friends who have already implemented this idea: T. Truscott, Well Shoot, and (oh dear, I just realized that the name of mine is very similar to the next one. Sorry Kendra), Three Sixty-Five.

Some of the content will be recycled, from this page (or very similar variants), for about the first week. After that I promise to spice it up, a bit. Here is the link: 365PPY. I suppose I should also disclaim, that it isn’t entirely finished yet. But it is very close. Enjoy.

This is a pretty big week for us. Piper is moving tomorrow. I’m very anxious to see that goes. Reagan and I have both taken the day off work for it. We are hoping that she makes a smooth transition, and that we can leave the new place feeling comfortable about her new environment. In addition to that obvious milestone, there are the following items:

  • Our fish had babies
  • I got a new Nike Plus Sportband, for free
  • I am making a conscious effort to try to use less of the following: “Awesome;” “That’s Awesome;” “Awesome, man;” and “Hahahaha, Awesome.” (this resolution excludes G-chat conversations)
  • I have decided to use less commas, as well (Including G-chat conversations).
  • Saturday we are going to Boston to see Becca run the Boston Marathon.
  • This is the second to last week for Reagan and I to train for the LI Marathon/Half Marathon
  • We are making our first 2009 tax pre-payment, so that we don’t get slammed again next year.

Reagan and I have been watching the pair of Convicts in our fish tank, flirt and dig for the last couple of weeks. They have emptied all of the substrate from an area of about 1 square foot, in the back corner of the tank. They piled it all up around their little nursery, like protective walls. We could tell that they were probably going to spawn. Yesterday, Reagan said that she saw the male convict take on Tina (the oscar), who is about double its size, and scare Tina away to the other side of the tank. After hearing this, I suspected that they had probably already laid eggs somewhere. I wanted to try to see them, if I could. So I closely inspected that little corner of the tank. It was really cute to see how nervous they got, with me close up against the tank like that. They were ready to fight. At first I couldn’t see anything. But then I noticed the female herding some little fry back to the pack. She has them all tucked away in a little nook of the rock that sits in the back corner. If you couldn’t see them in the photo above, here is a close up.

Question–

Dear Jake,

Why is it that when I drop things they fall towards my feet?  When I was in space that didn’t happen.  Man I miss space.

Name: Armstrong, Neil

Answer–

Mr. Armstrong, I feel your pain. Unlike you, I have never been to space and had the luxury of having things just float around when I drop them. This happens on Earth because of the age old, Law of Gravity. Being somewhat of a political activist, I have actually been lobbying unsuccessfully for the last 15 years to get this law repealed. You might want to write a letter to your congressman about it. I am going to try to organize a picket next Fall in Washington. I’ll email you the details. In the meantime here is a poster that you can print out and put in your window to show support for the cause.

I was on the UES today during lunch and I happened to see these dogs. I’m pretty sure that if they ganged up, they could overpower that dude. Just sayin’.

On Saturday, after it finally stopped raining, I had a chance to get out and snap a few more photos with the new cam. Reagan was doing hair all day, so I took a little walk up the street to Ft. Tryon Park. The rest of the photos are lumped in this album. There is also this.

125cc.jpg

I sat down Sunday night and turned on the TV, totally pumped to watch the 2009 MotoGP season opener, and noticed it was last year’s race showing on the screen. I was really confused until a banner started scrolling across the bottom of the screen, saying that race had been rained out and postponed until Today. The rain didn’t stop the 125 or 250 class from racing. The photo above is from the 125cc race. Notice how they aren’t getting low in the corners, at all. From what I understand, neither of those races went the full distance, and one of them stopped after only 4 laps. It was kind of a let down. But hopefully it will be a good race today, and I will be able to see it tomorrow.
