The semi-dry start wasn’t bad, at all.
Ugghhhh. Going into this race I had a goal of finishing under 3:30. Little did I know it was going to be one of the most miserable races of my life. The first 10 miles were fine. It was kind of drizzling and a pleasant temperature. But then it started to pour. Once my shoes because waterlogged, the newly peeled off blister on my right foot started hurting like a mother. It was affecting my form, and my pace became slower and slower. By the end was was just freezing and hurting. Not my best race. I ended up barely making it under 4 hours by 10 minutes.
On the upside, Reagan ran the half marathon and had a great race. She got a respectable time and had a lot of fun. She was able to finish before the downpour really kicked it. Our friends the Carters came out to watch us finish, which was really cool, especially considering the less than optimal weather. Afterward we had pizza at Grimaldis together. Their two little girls were really good sports about hanging out in the rain for so long. Reagan shared her bib and medal with Adeline. I wonder if they have a stroller division for these races.

Holy smokes! I saw that guy in the red shirt on the starting line last week on Nova – PBS!!!(No lie! – What was his name?!) They did a documentary about slug-people training for and running the Boston Marathon. He was one of the subjects. Wow. I guess he liked it. Rad.
With the weather your race sounds a lot like our epic 5k school fundraiser of a week ago(minus 23 miles).
@angie: Is it this guy? I’m not familiar with “slug-people.” Is that some sort of term of art? Hahahah. It looks like he was running the half marathon, from his blue bib. If it is that guy, I’m not really sure why he was starting from the front row, if he runs an 8:53 mile.
Good job even if you didn’t make your goal. That sucks it was pouring rain that is a fear of mine running a long race in really bad weather. I have run a race that it was snowing but rain I think would be a lot worse.
That stinks. Good job, though.
I didn’t know you recently ran a marathon! Kudoos to you for doing it and plus doing it in the rain! That is EXTREMELY impressive!
