First things first: this is the 1000th post on the new blog. Thank you, thank you. Now, getting to brass tacks: please notice my squinty faced self portrait in the Rolls Royce grill, above. Hahahaha. It wasn’t on purpose. It was one of those bonus details that I noticed when I started editing.

I spent the morning at the New York International Auto Show, at the JavitsCenter. Aside from bar exam flashbacks, it was a pretty good time. I’m pretty sure that I can post these, since they are most likely just going to be stock files for this media company that I intermittently do jobs for. Anyway, it was pretty much the coolest ever, because today and tomorrow are media only, which means that I pretty much had the joint to myself. I’m going back for another dose, in the morning, since I didn’t even make it half way through.

If you know me very well, then you know what a perv I am, when it comes to Audis. I better not even get started. Of course I shot some Lambos and Astin Martins. But dude, I would have been pleased as punch if Audi was the only brand repping. Check out these gorgeous R8s.

I would even take it in white.

Who needs coffee, when you can start the day off shooting this kind of action?

Over the weekend, I rescued this BIC turntable from the curb, when I was walking home from parking the car. It was before the monsoon started, so it hadn’t been exposed to the elements or anything. It just needed to have the dust wiped from it. It appears to be in working order. It isn’t super high end, or anything. It doesn’t even have strobe dots on the edge of the plate. But, for the price, I really can’t argue.

Now I finally have an excuse to start collecting vinyl again. There have been several times that I was tempted to buy a record, but reminded by Reagan that we had no turntables. I knew that purchasing some vinyl would just open an expensive can of worms. I knew that as soon as I bought an LP again, I would have been inclined to go out and buy some expensive Technics or Denon setup. I didn’t want to go down that road, especially since I don’t currently have the time to devote to that hobby.

This bad boy has a bit of character, too. BICs were manufactured on Long Island, and the company no longer exists. So in a way, it is kind of a collector’s item. Also, Reagan likes it, since it has a retro look to it. Yes, I just spent three paragraphs writing about a turntable that I found on the sidewalk. [Nerd]. Sorry.

I love it when Reagan brings home fresh flowers. I know that it should probably be my job, not hers. But I generally only bring them home on Valentines, or if I did something really bad. Just joking about the second reason. When I did something really bad, I normally just have the flowers delivered straight to Reagan’s work. Hehe.

Anyway, most of the time that Reagan brings home flowers, they are from her TJ’s run (not to be confused with a “TJ run”). TJ’s, is our favorite little discount grocery store, Trader Joe’s. It is kind of like Whole Foods, except w/o all of the a-holes and exorbitant prices. We recently discovered that we will soon have a Trader Joe’s on the UWS, not too far from where Reagan works. This is pretty good news for us. It isn’t that we don’t like going to the one in White Plains, but it generally cuts into our Piper time. It most likely also means that we will have fresh flowers on a more frequent basis. :)

I know that Jake is a pretty big fan of hip hop, or at least a much bigger fan than I, so it kind of surprises me that I have managed to find a group that I endorse, and Jake hasn’t written about. I will just cover the nuts and bolts, and maybe if I’m lucky, I can read a critique article next week. I don’t know much about underground hip hop. Most of what I know I learned from La Musica Coolica, and Cousin Kimball, aka “Litmus One.” He is also half of the duo that makes up Imbibe. The other member of the group is Cousin Preston. These two brothers have spent the last few years in Denver putting music together. They have done a couple of shows, and have yet to put out an album. I feel like I should have more to say about the music they make, however most of their music that I have heard has been in front rooms at house parties, and bedroom recording studios set up on card tables. *sidenote* sigh… I miss hanging out with these guys. *end note* Anyway, you can find them on MySpace, and in Denver, and on my family phone list. Please, enjoy.

Sunday was grey and cold, all day long. We visited Piper early. Reagan had a long story reading session with her, before Piper decided that it was nap time. I was definitely feeling the nap vibe, too. So, I caught my own nap, later in the afternoon. I hope that spring comes back soon. I can handle the cloudy skies, I just need the warm temperatures back.

Reagan was booked doing hair today. So, I had a kind of rare opportunity to hang out with Piper by myself and get some daddy-daughter one on one time. It was pretty fun. Piper (like most kids) loves phones. I had mine out to snap a shot of her for Reagan. She grabbed the phone with both hands and put it right in front of her face. I pressed the button a couple of times. These images are the result. Kinda cute.

In other news, Spring has still not come back to NYC. It was deceptively sunny today. Looking out the window, it appeared to be high 50′s or even low 60′s. But in reality, we didn’t even break 50 degrees. Apparently there was a tree on 5th avenue that was pretty pissed off about that too. Below, is a shot, from Ennuipoet’s Flickr.

So then why is everything going so crappy? I missed my run this morning, because 1. it was raining 2. I was getting a haircut and 3. The temperature dropped like 20 degrees, overnight. To cap off a rough morning, the crowd was 4 deep on the train platform this morning (see above). Everyone had clearly been waiting for a loooonngg time, when I arrived. Luckily, I only waited 15 minutes or so (during which 3 uptown trains came by) until a downtown train finally came. Of course it was already full. I considered just bagging the commuting idea, for the day. Working from home is nice. Instead, I squished my way onto the train and made it downtown. Here’s hoping the rest of the day feels a little more like a Friday is supposed to.

Thursday night, I had the pleasure of shooting Justin Bua’s gallery opening at Pop International in SoHo. I was pretty stoked about it, being that I’m a huge fan of Bua’s. I actually did a piece on Bua and his work, in SoJones earlier this week. Be sure to check it, if you haven’t already.

More photos can be found on my photography blog. FYI, the gallery was packed, even during the VIP reception. I was able to get in before the event actually started, to snap these pics.
