In May, Shepard Fairey worked with 100 kids from the CityKids Foundation put together a wheat paste mural that was installed earlier this week in WFC (which happens to be the compound that I work in) So I stopped by and snapped some images for Cutratedmag.

If you have a sec, this short video is pretty cool, too. In it, Fairey explains his motivation behind doing the project with the kids, and invokes Keith Haring.

Wednesday night I was helping Reagan with some images for a guest post that she is doing for some style blog. It was one of those step-by-step hair style things. Anyway, we had just finished it up, and I was breaking down my camera, when she called me from down the hall to come get some shots. I was like “duuuuuddddee, really? I just put everything away.” Reagan kept saying “Come look. I’m a dumb blonde!” When I got up to peer down the hall at her, I saw that she had taken out her pins and/or whatever else and was staring at me like a deer in the headlights. It was pretty funny, and definitely camera worthy.

Totally kidding, about the “already” part. Holy cow, torrential rain makes a week drag and drag, no? Anyway, tomorrow I’ll be shooting the event below. So, please (pretty please) feel free to come by. I mean– Bloomies, you know where it is. And.. free Heine. How can you turn that down?

Post script: I. Hate. Hiccups. From now on, I’m not even going to say it is cute when Piper has them. Miserable.

Yes, Best Coast. You may or may not remember, Reagan and I saw them open for Kid Cudi earlier this summer. We both really liked them. They are kind of an odd combo: Two cat loving middle-aged white women, and a dude on guitar that looks like he grew up listening to metal. They are awesome. Reagan and I were both extremely impressed with the singer’s vocal accuracy. She has a very pleasant voice, and did not miss one note during their entire set.

Basically, all of their songs follow the same formula: lyrics about being lonely/wanting a boyfriend; heavy reverb on guitars and vocals; and, keep it under 3 minutes. With this combo, you basically can’t go wrong. If you like this song, you will like the whole album. Here is “When I’m with you.”

We had a really good weekend. I was able to see Piper 3 times, which is a rarity. We spent some good times hanging out with friends, and the weather was great all weekend long. Of course that meant that Monday had to come with a vengeance. The shot above is a view from my floor of the harbor, this afternoon. It’s not exactly inspiring.

This is where I start talking about a bunch of random stuff that has been on my mind. First: Since we went sailing with our friends in SC, I have been mildly curious/obsessed (depending on the day) about buying a sailboat. After reading a feature on Boingboing a few weeks ago, about simplifying life and unloading possessions, I started thinking about it even more. How awesome would it be to just live on the boat? Realistically it is more than a pipe dream, given our current situation. But, how great would it be so just untie from the buoy and sail up to the cape for the weekend? Anyway, I went as far as looking into prices on CL. The image below is just one of several examples that I found priced well under $10k. $10K!! Cheaper than the price of a crappy used car.

Onto random topic number two: Because of the weather, I totally skipped my run this morning. I’m really really stressing out about it. I would probably cut myself some slack, except for the fact that my last two weeks of training have been less than satisfactory. So, I feel like I have a decent reason to be stressing. Then, I think back to a couple of articles that I have read recently. One of which appeared in Details, and was titled “Are you wasting away at the gym?

The article basically talks about people who become so obsessed with working out, that it becomes their first priority, and they beat themselves up if they miss a workout. Here is an excerpt:

[...] a growing number of guys, it seems, think that missing one day of exercise, or even cutting short a workout, will suddenly make them frail or—far worse—fat. Among their ranks is the guy who can’t sleep nights because he’s too amped-up about the training he’s going to do at 5 a.m. If his trip to the gym isn’t up to snuff, he’ll log another in the evening, making excuses to blow off work or a date. And then there’s the guy who feels compelled to ride the stationary bike until he has burned off every last calorie from lunch (“You’re paying the price for that slice of pizza,” he tells himself). And if these workout junkies can’t exercise—if they spend a mere 24 hours away from the weight room—they plunge headlong into depression.

For the most part, the article doesn’t describe me, at all. But, as of late, some of it kind of does. I just hope that I can just have a good race at Hartford, then stop stressing so much. Ok, I guess that concludes my ranting for today.

First of all, the funniest thing ever: When we arrived Saturday afternoon, Piper was just waking up from her nap. She was kind of playing with the little device where her G-tube (feeding tube) connects to her belly. We didn’t think much of it, at first. But after changing her diaper, clothes, she was still obsessed. She kept pulling up her shirt, to tap on it, and play with it. Hahahaha. Below is a shot of Piper in her new skinny jeans, tapping her G-tube through her shirt.

Here is a better shot of her little outfit. Piper is trying to take back suspenders from old men and nerds (even though nerds are the new cool).

We didn’t take her for a walk Saturday. We just hung out in her room and goofed off. Reagan dialed up some old cartoons on her phone, and I took a short vid, below, of Piper cracking up about Mickey and Donald.

Grade= F

Milage= nominal

This week, I earn a solid F. I didn’t evaluate last week, but I earned an F then also. I was going to give myself a pass for last week, since I scored my fastest half-marathon time, to date, on Sunday. Alas, I was a total POS this week. I was feeling a little under the weather in the middle of the week, but I had no excuse to miss my long run today. I plan to make up for it, starting tomorrow.

Friday was awesome, because I was able to spend the morning hanging out with Piper and Reagan.

2010-shotbyjake-com-2114

Piper recently got some new overalls, and Reagan was excited to try them out on her. They were especially good during her walking therapy, since Piper’s normal britches tend to fall off.

Reagan got a shot of me doing Piper’s walking therapy with her, too.

The weather was awesome today. I was able to spend some time on Governor’s Island, this morning shooting some promo stuff for a boot company.

2010-shotbyjake-com-1831-web_

It was my first time back to Governor’s Island since the Clicquot event. The setup was at picnic point, on the north end of the island, and the catering crew used these awesome little jars to serve the drinks.

2010-shotbyjake-com-1862-web_

Reagan and I brought our bikes to the island, once. It was totally crowded. This time was a lot different than the other times I was there. It was completely empty, and awesome.

2010-shotbyjake-com-1886-web_

I am feeling a lot better today. Thanks for all of the get well wishes, BTW (It is totally working). But, I decided not to push it, and skipped my run. I can’t believe that tomorrow is already Friday. I’ll be spending the morning, snapping some shots of Piper in her swanky new threads.

Feel free to skip this post. It is nothing more than a long complaint. I am sick for the 9000000th time, this year. I knew it was going to happen when my office mate came in coughing her lungs out last Thursday. It is a little bit ridiculous. I was supposed to run 11 miles Wednesday morning. When I woke up sneezing at 2:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep, I realized it wasn’t going to happen. I was hoping that it was just allergies. But somewhere around noon, when I was still blowing my nose every 5 minutes, I knew I was in trouble. After work, I was supposed to go out with Reagan and some friends to a movie that she scored some tickets to. Instead, I stayed home, did laundry and took a photo.  Initially I was going to try to get a shot of the lightning going on outside, but decided that I didn’t have the patience or energy at the moment. So, instead I took a super exciting shot of my B-berries sitting on my desk.

I’m supposed to do a 21 mile run on Saturday and the Hartford marathon in 2 weeks. I’m kind of freaking out.
