I mentioned before that my homey M. Cuomo was going to leave his single speed in my care when he moved to Florence. Well, dudes, here she is. I have named her Trixie. Someday she might even be Trixie the fixie. But for now she is just a very loved single speed who just got herself a new set of drop bars.

The top two shots are of Trix as she looked after I took her in. Since then I have hooked her up with a new set of Nitto drop bars. I also flipped over the gooseneck on the stem for a more aggressive riding position. Try not to be jealous. I know that Trixie is hot. I haven’t even had a chance to ride her with the new bars. But Friday is my day off of running. So, you better believe that I’m going to be taking Trixie to work tomorrow instead of the A Train. Some shots of her new bars, below.

Ok, first the PBR Koozy gvwy, now this. I know what you are thinking. Just the same, first person to call me a hipster gets slapped (kidding). But, seriously, don’t call me a hipster, k? Also– thanks again, Mike.

Last night was one of the rare occasions that I made it into the East Village. Shockingly enough, this time it wasn’t to get my Crif Dog fix. I shot a soiree for Lucky Magazine held at a little speakeasy styled spot on East 3rd. Reagan joined the party after she left the salon. Our friend Amanda also met up with us. We had a great time and made some new friends. One more shot–

What better way to keep your cold ones cold, than by wrapping them up in a PBR koozy? And just in time for the dog days of summer. His and hers, perhaps? Leave a comment about whatever you want, for a chance to win. I’ll digitally pull a number out of a hat late next week to choose the winner. Good luck!

When Reagan got home on Monday night, she didn’t waste any time showing me all of the video and photos that she shot while she was in Chicago. I have been working with her for the past few months trying to get her comfortable shooting the 5D in Manual. She took it with her on her trip, and didn’t have to call me once to ask me how to adjust the settings. The images came out awesome. I’m super proud of her. As I write this, she is in my office sorting everything out, in lightroom. If that wasn’t enough, check out her video skills! She shot and cut this whole thing herself.

Anyway, enough bragging about the wife. Today was one of those days where I didn’t waste one minute. I woke up at 5:30, Moved the car. Came home and changed into running gear, went for a run. After showering, I packed a messenger bag (with work clothes, camera and bike lock), took the train to Brooklyn. In Brooklyn, I stopped by M. Cuomo’s old apartment and picked up a bike that Mike left for me with his former roomie. From there, I rode across the Williamsburg Bridge, cross town, and down to the FiDi for work. I tried out the new parking area inside of the gated parking garages at my building. It was amazing. No anxiety about the bike getting ripped off, all day long. I was super busy, at the office, which made the day fly by. I know this is getting boring, but I must continue. After work, I rode to a gallery to shoot an opening. Then rode home. I have spent the rest of the evening setting up my new laptop that Reagan and Piper got me for Father’s Day. I’m writing this post from that very computer. The end.

With Reagan off gallivanting around Chicago, Piper and I have spent the last couple of days maximizing our daddy daughter time. Sunday, we went for a walk outside. Lately all she wants to do when she isn’t riding on my shoulders, is try to figure out how to climb back up onto my shoulders. Apparently she never get’s bored up there. She just settles in and is appears to be totally content, even if we are just sitting around enjoying the weather. When we were walking back across the parking lot to go inside, she was walking and holding my hand. It was still relatively early in the morning, so there were some long shadows. Piper was mesmerized by hers. It was so cute to watch her try to figure out what was going on with the whole shadow situation. I could imagine her in her head “what is that little grey thing on the ground that looks just like me and copies my movements?” So cute.

And here is one more shot of her watching a bird through the glass, while doing a sassy pose. These are both blackberry cam shots, hence the poor quality. But it is tough to carry a Piper and a big camera. Plus sometimes it is nice to have a break from photo duty.

Not too long ago, on JNB, I gave away a canvas pouch by Madewell. Last week, I received some photos of the pouch in action, with its new owner. The winner was Bethany, and as it turns out, she owns a pair of glocks (a 19 and a 26) named Elsa and Gertie. Well, here are the images. I have to say, it looks like a custom fit.

It has been pretty patchy for me, over the last three weeks. But this weekend, I did try to get out and redeem myself, a bit.

I’m really hoping that I can springboard off of this weekend and get back into the saddle. Since I have been such a slacker, I dropped in some extra distance on both Saturday and Sunday. I’m glad to report that even though I was feeling sluggish, overall they were good runs. The only setback I had was running through crazytown. Crazytown is what I like to call a part of the Hudson River path where half of Spanish Harlem congregates to grill and play volleyball on the weekends. Running along the path in that part of the park is like playing frogger, except as a car, not the frog. There was a woman standing next to the path, who looked right at me, and still walked out right in front of me. She was carrying a large bag full of canned food, which smashed my shin open. Thanks, crazy town!

Here is what is on tap for this week–

Despite the less than ideal weather yesterday, I ended up being super productive. I got a couple of images that I really like. The shot above is of the new JR piece on Houston (same spot as Scharf, Fairey, Os Gemeos, etc.). For a couple more looks of the JR piece jump over here. Since it was Thursday, I also hit like 3 gallery openings. All of the installations were very cool. My favorite was probably the show that opened at Kasmin last night. There were a lot of big names there, which makes it fun. Also, I think that I may have shot the only photo in existence, of KAWS smiling. Anyway, while I was scurrying around Chelsea, I saw this girl running like she was being chased by a dude with a chainsaw (she wasn’t).

Apologies to the girl in the photo for recording her stressful moment. But I thought it was awesome to see a girl straight sprinting while wearing a dress. Speaking of stressful moments, check out this mighty comical story that our friend Katie posted this week.

Have a great weekend!

Vague blogging is the worst. So, I apologize in advance. I can just say that the last few days have been a series of ups and downs that have left me with a general feeling of blah. It seems fitting that it is like 9000% humidity today and spitting rain. I’m just glad that I have Reagan and a solid group of friends to keep me sane.

Moving along to the more positive side of things:

Despite the title of this post, we are actually past midweek. Only one day until the weekend. There was a big winner in the Manfrotto Giveaway. I really enjoyed reading all of awesome stories about the future possibilities of that bag. I seriously wish that I could have fired a new kit off to every single person who commented. Ultimately, Dan R. was the lucky individual. Apparently it pays to procrastinate. He was commenter 210 of 214. Congratulations, Dan!

Other good things going on:

  1. I’m working on a pretty fun project with a friend of mine and Reagan’s involving the top photo in this post. I can’t really say what it is, yet. But it will potentially be very cool.
  2. Speaking of projects, our friend (and now neighbor) Joe is going to be working with me on the project mentioned in #1. He is the same friend that I am doing ear full of gold with. I mentioned the project a while back. Joe actually has a pretty good design idea going on over there right now, feel free to check it.
  3. Reagan is taking a weekender to Chi town this weekend with our sister-in-law Mel. They seem pretty excited about it. And, I am excited for them.
  4. Just from making this list, my spirits have been lifted a bit.

More positivity to come, later this week.

discovery

After a brief hiatus, we’re back. This week’s ear candy is Discovery. It’s is a pretty simple name for an equally simplistic sounding group. This outfit is a side project of Rostam Batmanglij (of Vampire Weekend), as well as one of the Ra Ra Riot dudes. It is pretty much as far down the “electro” end of the “electropop” spectrum as one can get. I can’t say that I enjoy all of their tracks. But I really do like a solid handful of them. The one that I’m sharing today is called “Swing Tree.” Like it.
