In contrast to the past few weeks, this one has seemed to drag on FOREVER. But it will soon be a happy memory, being that today is Friday. It actually feels like I got the weekend started last night, since I covered two events that were both pretty fun. My favorite of the two, was the preview party for new Chrome store [above], which opens Saturday.

The weather is supposed to be awesome, this weekend. It should be ideal for our long runs on Saturday. In addition to running and visiting Piper, we have a few extra items of fun slated for the weekend. Tomorrow and Sunday is the Gatsby Festival at Governor’s Island. I’m hoping that we can make it down there for that. Also this weekend, is the second of only two MotoGP races that occur on American soil each year. The GP riders will be fighting it out at the brick yard. I have to admit though, with Rossi’s injury, and Stoner’s apparent ineptitude, It hasn’t been much fun to watch Lorenzo run away with the title this year. Just the same, it will be fun to watch Hayden and the other American riders go for broke on their home turf. I’m getting ahead of myself for a minute, but I am also very excited about Rossi’s new contract with Ducati. Sounds like a match made it heaven. Italy’s hero piloting Italy’s flagship.

I’m also excited because this is the last weekend in 2010 without college football. I’m sure that I have told this story before. But, here it is again. Once, several years ago, about this same time of year, I was feeling kind of bummed out because the summer was over. I was in college, living with my parents and dreading going back to class for fall semester. I was expressing my dismay to my mom one night and she told me “Jake, that is why God gave us college football. So we have something to look forward to.” Such a wise woman. Since I have never been a BYU or Notre Dame fan, I wasn’t used to hearing the words “God” and “Football” in the same sentence. But the way she contextualized it, I had to agree Ma B. Utah’s first game is next Thursday against Pitt. Getting ahead of myself again, I can’t wait to see how the U of U does next year as a member of the Pac10.

I hope that everyone has a fantastic weekend!

This has been a pretty strange weekend, for me. Not strange in a bad way, just different. I think that the rain today might have something to do with it. We had a huge day full of activities planned today, but as it stands, I have only made it outside today for three quick tasks. 1. Moving the car (when I shot the photo above); 2. taking our friends’ dog (below) for a walk (we are dogsitting, while they are out of town; and, 3. to do a quick and wet 4m. run. Other than that, I have been helping Reagan shoot another tutorial for her hair blog. Right now the battery is charging, so that we can do one more.

I suppose that I can take comfort in the fact that we had such a productive day yesterday. We had our long run in the morning, for which we incorporated the Summer Streets event. Summer Streets is when the City shuts down Park Ave to auto traffic, so that peds and bikes and ride all the way from 72nd St. to the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a really cool run. Apparently the training is paying off, too, because Reagan and I both felt fine afterward.

We headed up to see  Piper after grabbing some lunch. It was a cool visit, because one of our friends came with us, who was meeting Piper for the first time. We talked about Piper  and how proud we were of her accomplishments, for about 4 hours straight, hahaha. It was one of those overzealous proud-parent moment, that ended up being a lot longer than a moment. We didn’t get any photos of her, this weekend. Actually, Reagan snapped some really cute ones on Friday that she will probably share. But I didn’t get any.

I hope that everyone else had a great weekend.

Someone is barbecuing in our alley. It smells delicious.

In June, I saw this crazy thing called a burgermelt (a Friendly’s invention, consisting of a burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches) on the internet, and asked Reagan to make it for me. She totally did it.  So, last weekend, when I saw this thing called a Fried Cheese Melt, which is apparently a new addition to the menu at Denny’s (it is a grilled cheese sandwich with fried mozzarella sticks in the middle),  I once again forwarded the link to Reagan, asking her if she could make it. Friday night, when I arrived at my house, Reagan had already purchased all of the stuff to make it. She even fried her own mozzarella sticks!

The finished product came out better that it looked in the Denny’s photo (and I’m sure tasted better, too).

So good.

Don’t you love those weeks where you are so busy that they just fly past and before you even realize it, they are over? I love those weeks (but I hate when that happens on vacation). I have been too busy to even shave (see above). The shot above is perfect evidence of why I should spend my time behind the camera, not in front of it, hahaha. A guy that I was working at an event with, on Wednesday night, grabbed my camera and snapped one of me. I have seriously never felt less attractive, than I have in the couple of weeks. My tan is faded, I need a haircut, my skin is breaking out and I have bags under my eyes. Not a great combo.

Jessica White (below), on the other hand, was looking fabulous, that night. Ms. White was hosting the runway show Wednesday night. Can you believe that everyone is already starting to ramp up for fall fashion week? It is kind of exciting, because I love fashion week. But, it is kind of depressing, since that means that summer is basically done.

I dropped by PS11, again today, for Highsnob and had another great chat with my favorite Brazilian artists. Below is a shot of the finished piece, with Otavio shooting hoops in the foreground.

Thursday night, it was raining, so I didn’t run. No running today either. 14 miles tomorrow, it should be interesting, after so much time off.

I’m definitely looking forward to spending some time with Piper this weekend. Reagan and I have some pretty fun stuff planned, too.

To wrap things up– Ang tipped me off to an error that was happening in IE browsers when she was trying to comment. So, thanks for helping me troubleshoot, Ang. Also, my apologies to the other thousands, actually probably millions (hahahahaha) of people who have been experiencing the same frustrating problem while attempting to comment.

I hope that everyone has a fantastic weekend.

Tuesday, I dropped back by the piece that Os Gemeos are working on. This time, I was able to chat with Gustavo (above) for a while in Portuguese. I can’t tel you how great it was to chat with a Brazilian that has a proper Paulista accent (not to mention that it was cool to chat with him regardless dialect). He said that they are going to try to wrap this piece up by the end of the week. So, I’ll be back by there, probably tomorrow to shoot the finished product. The image below shows the progress, as of Tuesday afternoon (Moody Blues, anyone?).

I’m still not feeling 100%, but I can’t really take much more of a break from running, and expect to stay sane. If it isn’t raining tonight, I plan to resume with the training sched.. I’m a bit nervous, after taking a full week off. Thankfully my long run, slated for Saturday is only 14 miles. I will have a week to get back into the groove (Madonna, anyone?), before my 20 mile run next weekend.

The part that I’m really looking forward to, about the next two long runs, is that Summer Streets is currently in full effect. So, instead of doing my usual out-and-back down the Hudson River path, I can do Park Avenue, instead. Should be a blast, and a much welcomed change of scenery.

But, the biggest thing on my mind/load off of my mind, is that all of the nerd-stuff that I have been chipping away at for the last week and a half is finally resolved. Everything is now back in a relatively maintenance free stasis (fingers-crossed). I feel like I can finally get back to real life, and it isn’t a day too soon, because I am super behind on EVERYTHING.

After pulling out several hands full of hair (my own, hehe), and consulting with some of the most knowledgeable programmers I know (maximum thanks going out to Andre and Jansen), I was finally able to get the php garbage all resolved and running correctly. As a double bonus, I was able to eliminate all of the malicious scripts from the MySQL db’s. To top it off, I woke up today feeling quite a bit better. I’m going to hold off with running until Wed., just to play it safe. Things are looking up. Speaking of looking up, check out the image above, of the latest work by Os Gemeos (my favorite Brazilian street art duo), going up in Chelsea. I shot it Monday afternoon. It looks like they will probably be finished with it in another day or two.

Below is a sneak peak of some other stuff that I have shot recently. I was able to spend some time in the diamond district documenting some of the work that goes on there. I really enjoyed shooting it, especially since I have jewelers in my blood line. Props to my great granddad MJ. I’m sure that he could have given a lesson or two. If you enlarge the shot, you can see that the dude has tiny diamonds stuck to his hand with Vasoline. That is how they manipulate the diamonds without dropping them on the floor, when they are positioning them, setting them, etc..

Anyway, much love to everyone who has helped me out with this massive debacle, the last several days.

I normally just try to refrain from writing anything, if it is just going to be complaining. But, today, I couldn’t help myself.  In fact the title of this post is quite dramatic. But, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Piper is fine. I’m still employed. Reagan is fine. But… I am sick again. To be entirely honest, I don’t feel like I every fully recovered from when I was sick two weeks ago. But at least before, I could still run, because I could still breathe. I haven’t been able to run since last Wednesday.  I missed the New York Road Runner team championships on Saturday. Today, I still can’t really breathe right. Which means, no Piper visit and no running. It is driving me insane.

To add insult to injury, the hosting plan that I mentioned in my last post, didn’t exactly workout. So, I am trying out a new hosting plan, with my blog as the guinea pig. The tech support guys are really nice, but it is an operation that is pretty new, and from what I gather, it is a pretty small shop. As a result, my request to modify the PHP build running on the server, has still not been addressed. Because of that, I have no GD or FreeType libraries, which half of my plugins require (if you have perused it in the past couple of days, you may have noticed that it has just been displaying the header and a php generated error message). That is why shortcode is appearing where all of the images should be, when a page loads up. The only reason that anything besides error messages is displaying, is because I finally broke down and disabled all of my image handler plugins. It’s like driving a car with no brakes.

As if that weren’t enough, all of the MySQL databases on our old server (i.e. the one where Reagan’s blob, and all of our other sites, including some paying clients are currently hosted), have been infected with a malicious script that is redirecting all of those urls, to spam sites. Awesome. The tech support guys are working on it. But, as of Sunday morning, things still aren’t resolved. To top things off, my (home) office looks like a tornado hit. At least I can control that one. So, as soon as this post is published, things are going to start looking up. Wish me luck on resolving the rest of the crap on the list. I hope that everyone else had a less stressful weekend.

I have been up to my neck in nerdy stuff, the past few days. A year ago, my brother-in-law and I went into a joint venture on web hosting. Recently it became pretty clear that our current setup would no longer support what we are trying to accomplish. So we upgraded. Unfortunately it has been a pretty laborious process, and we are really just getting started. Anyway, my personal sites have been the guinea pigs, as far as migrating. If there were any glitches, I wanted them to be on stuff that didn’t really matter. And there have been plenty of glitches, hehe. Anyway, if I’m a bit silent over the next few weeks, you will know why. I feel like I’m driving one of those remote control robots trying to cap an oil spill.

Despite being ill, I went for a run Wednesday night, against my better judgment. I definitely paid for it. I felt like death, when I got home, then woke up the next day even more congested. Today I’m feeling a bit better, but I’m going to play it safe and wait until Saturday to pick up again with the training. Cross your fingers for me, that I will wake up tomorrow sans congestion.

Even though this was a relatively uneventful week, I’m really looking forward to the weekend. The biggest reason is because I haven’t been able to see Piper since weekend before last. I’m really excited to go spend some time with the little cutie, this weekend (I hope she still remembers me, hehe).

We have a couple of other fun items lined up for the weekend. Friday night, our friends Shakedown are playing at Pete’s Candy Store in Bk. Hopefully we will make it out to see that one. I actually used to play bass with them until Yoko, AKA Reagan came along and they had to throw me out, Hahahaha. Just joking about the Reagan/Yoko thing– mostly.

Saturday night, there is a b-boy battle at the Altman. I’m picturing various scenes from Style Wars, and hoping that Saturday night ends up being as cool as the movie.

Photo:  an e.5charlie koozy that I scored at Cargo, last week. They have some sick new stuff coming out in for the fall season. You can get it through their site.

First things first– One of the Titel Media blogs that I shoot for, Selectism is up for an award from Conde Nast’s Details magazine.  If you haven’t checked out Highsnobiety, or Selectism, make sure to jump over and check them out. Afterward, be sure to get onto the Details Magazine site, and cast your vote for Selectism.

Next up– I am going to be running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off, this week with all of the trade shows and various other goings on that I will be attempting to cover, for the next few days. I’m excited, for all of it. But, at the same time the stress-o-meter is bouncing in the red, hehe.

To cap things off– Thursday we will be heading to Charleston, on a mini vacay to visit some friends. I’m totally looking forward to it. So, the objective is to make it to Wednesday night in one piece. Here goes! :)
