yeah-yeah-yeahs

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The funny thing about these guys, is that I really didn’t like them at first. Reagan and I saw them last year at All Points West. They were pretty good, but I wasn’t super impressed. Granted, it was raining all day long, so they probably weren’t too happy to be playing on an outdoor stage. That could have been part of it. But, I have really been digging on them, as of late. If you have the “Rock Band” video game, then you know their song “Maps.” I like that song, but I don’t think that it is really representative of their sound. I think that might be another reason that I may have been disappointed by the APW performance. I really like how raw and simple their stuff is. It’s kind of like White Stripes meets Joan Jett, or something.

The album that I have been jamming to, lately is “Show your Bones.” Two tracks on there, I particularly love. One of them I’m sharing today. It’s called “Gold Lion.” For the record, this song has also been a part of my running playlist. Spin it.

Reagan, and I have been pretty pumped about this show for a couple of months now. It was especially cool, because we generally try to get to a lot of shows during the summer, when it is nice outside. For whatever reason (the exceptional amount of rain is actually probably the reason), we haven’t really been to many, this year. In fact, we have been to one, if you don’t count seeing the philharmonic in Central Park. We were, of course bummed when we heard the news about MCA. But we would be crazy to complain about who they found to replace the B-boys. We showed up around 3 and just kind of wandered around to check the place out. It was kind of sprinkling on and off. We ran into on of our friends right before it started to pour. We found a little tent booth that had been abandoned and spend the next 3 hours under it. Hahahaah

It rained for Vampire Weekend’s entire set, but they were really cool about it. We actually still had a really good time watching from under the tent.

After the clouds finally broke, the sky looked amazing. But the ground was a complete disaster.

We wandered over to one of the satellite stages, to watch Q-tip, while they were setting up for Jay-Z. Q-Tip was awesome. He did a bunch of old Tribe songs, and a tribute to MCA/B-boys.

Jay-Z was incredible. The only problem was that Reagan for some reason was feeling really sick. We had a really good spot, not too far from the stage, but she kept gagging, etc. So we went away from the crowd, so that she could puke, and get something to drink. I felt bad for her. But she said she was still having fun. So We just watched the rest of the show from the side, then the way-back. It was actually a lot of fun.

^—Reagy, not feeling too hot.

One very cool thing about the weather situation, is that the organizers are giving all of the people who bought Friday tickets, free admission to Saturday or Sunday. I think that we are going to go Sunday evening for Coldplay. Go here for the rest of the photos.

Here for a video of Reagan dancing to Q-tip.

First of all, check out this great pink haired lady from PatriX on Flickr. It is from her Berlin set. So I assume that it is somewhere in Berlin. I have no idea who the artist is. Anyway, I really like it.

Second: Tomorrow is All Points West. Reagan and I are pretty pumped about it, and hoping for blue skies. We were pretty bummed that Beastie Boys had to cancel, but pretty stoked that Jay-Z is filling in.

When I was buying our tickets, earlier this week (FYI ticketmaster is the devil), This was the Capcha that I got when I was checking out. What the crap? Hahahaha.

I received an email from the Beastie Boys this afternoon, with “Houston, we have a problem” in the subject line. In the email was a link to the video below, of MCA announcing that they are cancelling their upcoming shows and the new album release because they discovered that he has cancer in one of his glands, and one of his lymph nodes. Apparently it is treatable, and he will be getting surgery next week. I’m pretty bummed. They are pretty much the main reason that I wanted to go to All Points West, at the end of the month. Anyway, I’m even more bummed that one of the guys who I grew up listening to, has come down with something so serious. I am glad that it appears to be totally treatable though. Here is the vid, if you want to check it.
