djia4-2-09.jpg I mean, I complain so much when the index is tanking, I felt like it was high time that I dropped in some positivity, as well. Is it because of Obama’s statements regarding the US automakers? Is it because the G-20 has agreed on terms of regulation? I’m not really sure. But for me,  getting back over the 8000 mark is the icing on top of this beautiful sunny spring day. See that? I used a metaphor. The BSSD is the cake, the DJIA is the icing. I learned it on Reading Rainbow.

Other exciting things going on right now:

  1. Our birds are crazy. Reagan accidentally set one free last night and we had to capture it.
  2. Reagan and I decided that we are going to learn French. We have already had one lesson. I can now say “suck it, monkeys!” in three languages, not counting Pig Latin.
  3. Gen. Conf. is this weekend. This means that instead of going to church, I get to lay around the house and try to spot my mom on TV.

manonwire.jpg

Reagan and I killed off both of our Netflix movies pretty quickly, this weekend. So, we turned to the instant queue and watched “Man on Wire.” This movie is CRAZY. It is about Philip Petit, and his dream to walk a tightrope between the WTC towers. I was marginally interested, from the outset, but once we got into it, I was blown away. The sheer logistics of setting up the wire without being caught were so daunting, that it made the tightrope walking itself almost seem anti-climactic. That is, until you remember that it is a dude 1 mile high, walking a freaking wire! I was also pleasantly surprised to see how many photos, and how much movie footage they had, preserving the original event. I was expecting it to be like one of those dramatic re-enactment, reminiscent of  Court TV style documentaries. In all honesty, there are a few parts of the film that do incorporate that type of cheesiness. But for the most part, it is mind-blowing to watch a group of French hippies pull this thing off.

stereolab.jpg This is another one of those “post rock” groups that I was turned onto by a Base58 mashup. I’m not going to lie, at first they were a little much for me. At the time that I discovered them, I was neck deep into NYC hiphop. It didn’t leave a lot of room for new stuff to find its way into the playlist. Not to mention that I had my reservations when I found out that they have French origins (although currently based in the UK).  I can’t stand Nouvelle Chanson, or most other pseudo artsy French music. Anyway, I would throw on Stereolab, generally at night, when I just needed something on in the background. Something so that you could just marinate. After after doing this a few times, I started to hear some stuff that I really liked. I ended up becoming a huge fan. There are still some Stereolab songs that are over my head, that I can’t really get into. But overall, I really enjoy their sound. I hate to get all cliche and drone on about what an eclectic mix they have incorporated into their sound, but I guess that I just did. The problem is that they have a fairly broad spectrum encompassed in their sound, as well. Which made it difficult to choose a song to share. I finally settled on one called “Les Yper-Sound.” Press Play.
