This past weekend was a bit of a crazy one. It started on Friday, shooting a Krink and G-shock collaborative installation on Wooster (above, and below– more looks on shotbyjake). Saturday was madness, but Reagan and I were able to get a lot of overdue tasks out of the way. One of these items was picking up a Fedex (we don’t have a door man), which happened to be Reagan’s passport. We also sneaked in a couple of quick tutorial video shoots on Saturday evening. Woot! Sunday Morning we ran a 10k in Central Park. It was a good reminder of how out of shape I am. The weather is supposed to be half way reasonable this week. So, I’m hoping to get myself back on a schedule.

We spent the rest of the day kicking it with Piper. She was asleep when we arrived. But she woke up when she heard Reagan talking. We had a good visit. But, believe it or not, we didn’t really shoot any photos with Piper this weekend. So lame, I know. Hopefully Reagan will be able to get a few tomorrow during her visit.

One more kind of fun thing that I did in the last couple days was shoot this vid for Radcollector.com–

Reagan decided to switch up her hair a bit this week. It is now bright red, and I really like it. We were out last night for the opening of the new Agnes B. Store in Soho, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to get a shot of it.

Switching gears completely: April is Autism awareness month. How do I know this? One of Reagan’s friends who happens to have a little guy with autism wrote this yesterday. As is so happens, my family growing up was also affected by Autism (and still is). My younger sister suffers from the disorder. It has been a difficult thing, even as her sibling. But the things that I have seen my parents to through is seriously next-level. I have so much respect for parents and families of people who suffer from autism. I also have massive respect for the professionals who have devoted their lives to working with people who suffer from the disorder. Anyway, as part of Autism awareness month, prominent landmarks will be lit up in blue. When I read on Talia’s page that the Empire State Building was going to be lit up blue for the cause, I knew I had to get a shot of it. If you are interested more in the Light it up Blue organization, you can check out the site, here.

I hope that everyone is having a great Saturday. In NYC, the snow is gone, and the sun is out. I feel like it is going to be a good one!

Yesterday evening, J Crew held their Fall 11 preview in the MPD. It was awesome late afternoon sun, and one side of the showroom was letting a lot of it in. Even though there isn’t much J Crew product visible in the shot above, I couldn’t help but snap it, because of the light and the awesome flares it was making in the lens. Here is the color version.

I really liked the hair color/sweater color combo in the shot above.

And this guy came too:

And the big winner of giveaway No. 4 is…. Actually let me preface this by saying, thank you-thank you for all of the comments. I love reading about what people are listening to.  I really did like them all. I could tell that each person had put some thought into what they were sharing. So, I had to resort to good old random.org. Even though it doesn’t seem very random,  random.org chose the number 1. So– congratulations, Foodie!

I’m pretty sure that Reagan has your address. But if you wouldn’t mind forwarding it in an email, the buds are yours.

We have had a tough couple of days around the B-holt residence. I’m sure that I’ll eventually get to that in a later post. But we have definitely been staying busy. I shot some pretty interesting stuff (to me) on Friday and Saturday. I come from a family with a strong quilting heritage. I don’t know to what extent is has carried over to my generation. But, it seems like there was always some quilt that my mom (and usually at least one of her sisters) was working on, when I was growing up. My grandmother on my father’s side (who just turned 90 on Saturday), still makes a quilt for every new great-grandkid in the family (FYI, there are more than I can count on 50 fingers). If that’s not enough, we get it from Reagan’s side too. Both of our mom’s always run into each other at state quilt guild conventions. Yes, both of our mom’s are active members of the Utah State Quilt Guild. I personally think that is pure awesome. So, it is safe to say that I was raised to appreciate the art of quilting and the significance in American heritage and Culture. I’ll be honest though, I never thought I would be shooting or blogging about quilts. Buuuuuttttt, it just so happens that the American Folk Art Museum is currently holding an exhibition of American red and white quilts at the Park Avenue Armory. I ended up shooting it for Curated Mag. I was blown away. Not saying that these photos do it any justice, but scroll down for a couple of more looks.

Ok, if you made it this far down the post, then maybe you will be interested in what I shot on Saturday morning. HS teamed up with Nike for an editorial story featuring the new Kobe collection, at a little league soccer game in the Bronx. The game was at 11:30 and I was worried that everything would be washed out with the sun that high in the sky. I guess it is lucky (for me) that we are still in early spring, because I don’t feel like the images came out that bad. I just hope that the people whose opinion matters, feel the same. Here are a few–

This last one had nothing to do with the product, but I just like the wide shot with the green turf and blue sky.

Last night we ended up at a party at the top of the Standard. I went there once during a Fashion Week event, but never at night. The view was great. I was glad that I had a camera with me.

Reagan was running around with her friends goofing off the entire time. I was waiting to get a call from her that they had been thrown out. It’s a good thing that our friend Jen, who invited us, is kind of a big deal (<—spoken in the voice of Ron Burgundy) in the context of the party (and in general).

One more city shot. I didn’t like that there was so much window glare in this one. But I did like the fog and the Empire State Building.

Last night was the super moon. To be perfectly honest, it didn’t appear any larger to me than it has on previous occasions. But, it was very very bright. We were on the roof when it rose, and it was a very dark shade of yellow from all of the pollution. It was kind of a cool effect. I got a couple of shots when it was low in the sky, but I wasn’t super stoked about any of them. I did, however, quite like the one that I posted above. This was shot after the moon was much higher in the sky. Here are a few other times that I have shot the moon from our house: one time and another time.

Earlier Saturday evening, we were shooting some tutorials for Reagan’s hair blog. There was a cat on the fire escape that was meowing super loud. I think that it must have wandered up and become stuck. Anyway, we finally let it in, so that it would shut up. We immediately thought better of it. So, we put it back out. The cat then leaped from the fire escape to the sill of an adjacent window that was open (at least 3 or 4 feet away). and came back in.

2011-shotbyjake-com-6783

Ultimately, I had to carry it down stairs and put it back out into the alley.

Backing up, a bit– Friday was beautiful. The high was well into the 70′s. I thought about going for an evening run, but then had a better idea. I called a couple of friends and we had a longboarding session in Central Park. I also brought along a little hand-held video camera (same one Jon used to shoot this), and some L.E.D. panels. I have been wanting to shoot a longboarding video since I saw this one, that I posted the other day. So, I figured I could get some ideas, shooting with the crappy camera for when we really go back and do it right. I think that having the moon out was key. Anyway, here is what we shot Friday night.

Now that I’m looking at these images all in the same post, I’m getting a kind of morbid vibe. That wasn’t my initial intention. It is just some more stuff that I shot last week, and wanted to share. All three of these works were featured in galleries exhibiting at Pulse. The painting on the top was done by Cindy Wright. I have really been enjoying the photo-realistic stuff that I have seen lately.

Below, is a mixed medium piece by Matthew Cox. It is an Xray partially stitched over with cross stitching thread. Super cool concept.

Finally, these skulls are made from pieced together glass gathered from Mexican beer bottles. The artist is Andres Basurto.

Reagan wasn’t working today, so we picked up and visited Piper together. We arrived right around lunch time. So, what better idea than bring Piper to the dining room for lunch? She was getting her little lunch through her G-tube while Reagan, Sam and I had boring normal people food. Above: Sam keeping Piper occupied while Reagan was getting some grub. Below: Reagan teaching Piper about soup.

Skip backward a day. Sam trekked all over the island with me yesterday helping me get some art shot. Here are a couple that I snapped of him while we were shooting the Parla exhibit at Wolkowitz, before the opening.

Sam, getting it done–

Yesterday, incidentally was also Sam’s birthday. We sort of a birthday lunch, but after such a busy day, he was a bit too worn out for us to really take him out and abuse him. So, tonight we are going to make merry. Here is a shot of Reagan very intently making him some birthday cookies this afternoon.

Later this weekend, I will announce the exciting results of giveaway numero uno. Have a great weekend!

Here is a link to some of the stuff that I shot for NYFW, this time around. One show to go– Rochambeau at the Standard. It has been wild, crazy and fun. But, I’m excited to have my normal life back. Hey, I think I might go running.

Right now is restaurant week in NYC. It is pretty convenient timing, for anniversary and birthday dinners. It make dinners that would normally break the bank affordable for us common folk. We started the evening off last night at Nino’s Tuscany in midtown west. We spent about 2 hours there before heading to Korea town. We had a two hour reservation at a booth Karaoke place starting at 9:30. Before we knew it, it was 2 A.M and we were still singing our guts out. As totally nerdy as this all must sound. It was the most fun that I have had in ages. Reagan was in full rock-star form. I had more fun watching her than I did taking my turns on the mic. Good times fo’ sho’. In other news, apparently Piper has decided to make taking unassisted steps the cutest thing on the planet.
