I definitely was not pleased this morning, when Reagan pointed out the fact that it was snowing. On a Friday? This seems like some sort of cruel joke. There go the plans for my roof-top Vernal Equinox barbecue! I’m kidding about the barbecue part. At least tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and almost 60 degrees. I hope that it happens. For whatever reason, good weather is a such a motivator for me. I’m getting in a groove, and I don’t want it killed by some fluke snow storm.

When I saw what I was up against today, I decided to work from home. It gave me a chance to go help shovel the sidewalks at our church (first time, for me), which was nice. It was also good to unload the foot and 1/2 of snow from the car, before it turned into a crusty impossible mess, overnight. It was a bit of a bungle trying to find somewhere to park, after shoveling, since alternate side rules are suspended today. I ultimately did find a spot that was being blocked by a fuel oil truck, filling a tank.

I tried to talk Reagan into taking a snow day. But she it too diligent. I hope the her boss, at least buys doughnuts or hot chocolate or something, for her efforts.

We woke up this morning to snow flurries. Not what one hopes for on March 1st. Lucky there was no real accumulation to interfere with our Sunday jaunt into Westchester County, to visit our favorite little star. She was in spectacular form today, wearing her red karate pants. Reagan had her sitting up in the rocking chair all by herself. Piper is one curious girl. I had the pleasure of holding her during most of our visit today, and Piper was very content just playing with my hands for over an hour. I will admit that I was very content as well. I feel like the picture above portrays very accurately the way that Piper and I were both just in the mood to kick back and marinate for a while. Sunday afternoon was designed for these types of events. Go here for the rest of the pics.

So much for the old sailor adage about red skies at night.

You can’t really tell from these pictures, but it is flurrying here in lower Manhattan. As in, SNOW flurries. I’m pretty bent out of shape (if it is possible for me to be anymore out of shape than I was before I saw this) about it. I checked the forecast and it said rain and snow tomorrow too. Fitness jokes aside, Come on! (spoken in the voice of Gob Bluth).

-I missed out on the Red Bull Snowscraper event yesterday/last night. I don’t feel too bad about it, since it was way too cold to be standing around outside for a long period of time (and I was working, kind of late). There is a rumor that it is going to be open to the pubic, before they tear it down. Really? That would be pretty freaking awesome.

-Where I come out of the subway at Chambers, it is one of those floor to ceiling turnstiles, with the cage-looking bars that works like a one way revolving door. About 50% of the time, there is a sticker (when I say sticker, I mean an Avery address label with a message printed in Times New Roman, Bold), on which is printed “Amplify Love, Dissipate Hate.” Pretty profound. The MTA scrapes it off about twice a week, but it always re-appears. Thanks, who ever goes through the trouble to print those out and stick them on there, every week. Even when I see the little grey patch, where it was removed, I am reminded each morning of the phrase.

-I finished “TSAR,” last night and started 1776 this morning, during my commute. I have heard a lot of good things about David McCullough, and I can see why. For a purely historical book, “1776″ reads pleasantly smooth, almost like a novel.

-I’m looking forward to seeing Piper awake this weekend.

mtncr.jpg Yesterday ended up being a fantastic day for riding. Me and some homies from the neighborhood spent the day at mountain creek, in the Jerz. We had fresh snow from the storm the night before. The sun even made an appearance for about 3 hours. We were having such a great time that we didn’t even slow down for pictures. Growing up out west, I developed a certain affinity for outdoor sports that is hard to put into words. I feel like my cousin Tiff, does a pretty good job. I was totally bummed that Reagan had to work, because I’m sure that she would have been loving it too.

The snowboarding trip was a nice way to cap off a pretty relaxing weekend. Which is totally what we needed, after such a couple of weeks. Reagan and I were finally able to sit down and have a meal together, talk face to face, etc. I hope that everyone else enjoyed their 3 day weekend.

I have been so excited to go riding tomorrow, that I can’t really stop thinking about it. It will be the first time in 2 seasons. I didn’t go once last year (redundant redundancy). Anyway, some of our friends came over last night and I made everyone watch snowboarding videos for about 3 hours. Everyone was a pretty good sport about it. Today, as fate would have it, we got a storm. In fact it is still snowing out side. How great would that be, to get a little fresh covering up the ice tomorrow? It will most likely be overcast with flat light, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could get a day like the one in the pic above (Jake/Snowbird/ circa 2003)? I have my fingers crossed for the sun to come out tomorrow. But in all honestly, I will take what I can get, and be pretty happy about just getting out, at all. Wish me luck. I haven’t been in so long that it is likely I have forgotten how, and will come back in an ambulance. Hahahah

You are cordially invited (though through a relatively crude medium) to come rock some east coast ice with us, this Monday. In the spirit of honoring the late Dr. King, we will be taking to the slopes of Mountain Creek Resort, in the lovely Garden State of New Jersey. Sorry about the short notice. But hey, we thought we were moving until, well, today. January has been a heluvva month for most of us, why not unwind by making some turns on the groomers? Hit me up, if you are down.

When I got on the train this morning, the sun was out, and it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day. When I came above ground, in the financial district, it was snowing sideways. Go figure.

It seems like just yesterday, I was complaining about how is was so warm and rainy, so close to Christmas. Well, shut my mouth. My parents are in town this weekend (more about that later), and they brought one of those patented Utah snow storms with them. They arrived on Thursday night, and woke up to the white stuff on Friday morning.

Here is a picture of the car around 11 A.M.. There wasn’t really much accumulation at that point. But by the time that we got on the parkway, heading up to see Piper, there were already several disabled (rear wheel drive) vehicles littering the side of the roadway. We had a great visit with Piper, then decided that since we were in Westchester, we decided to hit Trader Joe’s etc..

I decided to roll the dice and take the Saw Mill Parkway, to get home. When we first got on, we didn’t see another tail light for about 5 miles. Then we ran into this…
img_7961.jpg
They actually had that parkway closed for a while, and were forcing everyone to exit, right before a long hill that had been converted into a parking lot strewn with cars that couldn’t make it up the hill. By the time that we got close enough to the hill, that we could see what was going on, they had moved enough of the cars, to clear a single lane on the inside of the parkway, going up the will. Needless to say, Bebe had no problem cruising up the hill over the river and through the snow, all that. It took us about 3 hours from when we got on the parkway, to when we finally arrived at home.
