Piper has been in her new digs for almost 2 weeks now. She is clearly still getting used to the place. They moved her to a different room, last week. So she now has a roommate that is of a more comparable age. Unfortunately, this week Piper is battling to get her immune system up to par, for the various strains of blah and gross that inhabit the new locale. She has had a fever for a few days, and was clearly not feeling too hot when we visited her today. She was still running a bit of a fever and was more snotty (in a literal sense, not her attitude) than usual when we visited. She was sleeping when we first arrived, but woke up after not too long. We gave her a bath, during which we were reminded of how we are still getting used to the new place, as well. It is tough going from knowing everyone, and knowing where all of the supplies are located, etc., to feeling completely helpless at the mercy of the nurses and staff again. It is also difficult trying not to feel like we are being a huge imposition when we go ask where something else is, every 10 minutes. Anyway, after we got Piper all cleaned up, she played for about 2 minutes, then passed right out in Reagan’s arms. So we had a pretty quiet visit. Piper’s vent settings are also a lot higher than they have been for a long time, since she is not feeling well. It is tough to feel like there has been so much regression. I guess I’m not really sure what I was expecting. Hopefully she will be making noticeable progress again soon.

We visited Piper on our way up to Boston, on Saturday. It seemed like she had settled right into her digs. She had a new crib and everything. She was being very cute and playful. She was a little annoyed at first, since we interrupted her Saturday morning cartoon watching. But overall, she was glad to see us. She was able to say hi to the Hardies again, which was fun. I think that she was a little bit nervous about Carl’s fu manchu. But only for a minute, until  she realized how totally sweet it was.

Here is a link to more photos of Piper’s move. Reagan and I both have the day off, today and are excited to spend all day hanging out with her.

Phew. Today was a big day for Piper (and for us). The move went fairly smooth. There was an issue during transport, that caused her to be in a lot of distress when we initially arrived at the new hospital. We were getting kind of worried for a while, because her heart rate was staying so high, and she was visibly working very hard to breathe.  Eventually she did calm down, and seemed to be acting like her normal self again by this afternoon. So far, all of the people we have met at the new place have been very kind. They seem to like Piper, also. I hope that they bond with her the way that her previous nurses have, so that we can have that extra level of comfort while entrusting her in their care. Distance-wise, it is about the same as going to Blythedale. It will be a bit more expensive paying the $8 toll over the GW each time. On the upside, there in an Ikea, and 2 malls in between. Actually, those factors will probably make the commute even more expensive, hahahah.  The photo below is after Piper was able to calm down and start playing again, like the cute little monkey that she is. We greatly appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers for Piper in connection with her latest transition. We have felt an incredible amount of support, and I’m sure that she has too.
