Reagan and I went to the closing party for the RE:Form School Exhibit last night at the St. Patrick’s School in SoHo. It was a very cool project, meant to raise money and awareness for art programs in public schools. In addition to featuring pieces created by students around the country, some heavy hitting contemporary artists donated work. The mural above was done by Andrew W.K.. Shepard Fairey and Swoon also contributed work.

Positive messages were quite literally in every room of the exhibit.

I love the shot below of Reagan scratching a mosquito bite on her ankle.

I also thought that it was cool, that Reagan was repping Highsnob, with her tote.

We both really liked this neon piece, in the stair well.

Reagan left a bit early. I wanted to stick around and watch ?uestlove perform outside in the courtyard. But, then this happened. So, I just waited for a lull and made a break for it. Luckily I made it home without getting drenched or concussed.

I posted some kind of creepy photos in the spirit of it being the month of Halloween. They aren’t nearly as awesome as these ones, that I saw yesterday. But, who can compete with that kind of stuff!? Don’t worry, Reagan isn’t dead. These shots are from a session that we did with a painter friend of ours who asked if he could use Reagan as a model. Some of the poses that he had her in seriously looked like she had just ODed and collapsed, or something. The shots above are just two of the 400-something frames that we shot. I’m curious to see how the piece comes out. I’m sure it will be awesome. He does great work, and I mean, with a model like Reagan, you can’t really go wrong (even if she looks dead).

Exciting things happening this month:

I have some pretty interesting sounding shoots lined up, including two art exhibits that I’m pretty excited about. One is at the Met, an Exhibit by Miro, called the Dutch Interiors. From the description, it looks like it will be Miro’s take on the old Dutch Masters (which may me my favorite painters, ever). The other will be on display later this month at the Joshua Liner Gallery in Chelsea. The artist is El Mac. The reception that night is open to the public, so feel free to check it out. Thanks for the heads up on that one, Dan!

The weekend of the 9th, we will be racing at Hartford. The image above is from the 2008 Hartford Marathon, at about mile 23. Last year (below) I was not doing smiles or thumbs up at Mile 23. That was taken near mile 20… I was dying.

img_2697

I’m still trying to figure out which one of those it is going to be (thumbs up, or dying) this year. Don’t ask me how the training is going. They did restructure the course for this year, though. I think that I will like it better, because they got rid of a nasty section of hills that was right at the end of the race. By “got rid of,” I mean, moved them to the beginning of the course, so that people will still have energy when they encounter them. It will be a fun ordeal regardless of outcome. Reagan will be doing the half, as will several of our friends. My friend Mike “might” be running the full with me. Also, some of my cousins will be in town running the half. So cool. This will be the first time in my adult life running a race together with a blood relative. I’m pretty excited about that.

Shortly after the marathon is my birthday. I’m not huge on birthdays, but I thought I would throw that in there.

Shortly after my birthday, we will be taking a road trip to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. We will be meeting up with Reagan’s family, there for a reunion and to celebrate the return of Reagan’s brother from a long stint in Mexico as a missionary. I have never been to Tennessee, so I have to say that I’m quite curious and excited to check it out. Plus I always have a great time when we get a chance to hang out with Reagan’s family. And, I mean…. road trip. Can’t really beat that.

To round off month #10 is, of course, Halloween. Not sure what antics Reagan is cooking up for this year. But I’m sure that they won’t disappoint. We are also keeping our fingers crossed about a possible visit from my sister Sarah, that week. Happy October!

I have had a blast, this week shooting three separate trade shows. Monday, I was able to hang out with a bunch of Olympic caliber snowboarders and swap some stories about riding Utah back country. I was also able to reconnect with all of my friends over at Cargo. It was a blast. I’m including a few of my favorite images from the Capsule show, in this post.

Tonight, Reagan and I are going to be hitting a Converse promo in Brooklyn, where some of the guys from Vampire weekend will be performing. It should be a good time. I’ll try to put up a few more shots from yesterday and today/tonight, before we run off to Charleston.

Separately: Reagan and I have had so much positive feedback in the form of kind comments about the recent shots that we posted (here is Reagan’s post), of Piper’s progress with walking, etc.. I know that we have a fairly limited overlap in readership, but I just wanted to say thanks for all of the positive vibes that we have received. We really do have a lot of gratitude for the amount of support that we feel. Sometimes it almost makes me feel like we are doing something right :)

First things first– One of the Titel Media blogs that I shoot for, Selectism is up for an award from Conde Nast’s Details magazine.  If you haven’t checked out Highsnobiety, or Selectism, make sure to jump over and check them out. Afterward, be sure to get onto the Details Magazine site, and cast your vote for Selectism.

Next up– I am going to be running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off, this week with all of the trade shows and various other goings on that I will be attempting to cover, for the next few days. I’m excited, for all of it. But, at the same time the stress-o-meter is bouncing in the red, hehe.

To cap things off– Thursday we will be heading to Charleston, on a mini vacay to visit some friends. I’m totally looking forward to it. So, the objective is to make it to Wednesday night in one piece. Here goes! :)

Normally, by this time of the week, a little bit of detente creeps into my mood, and I start to anticipate the weekend. Today, however, I’m totally stressed out. I had a 9 mile run marked for this morning. I woke up at 5:30– monsoon. So, I figured I would give it an hour, and set my alarm for 6:30. Again, I woke up to a monsoon. Since It takes me about an hour to do that kind of distance, I had to abandon running this morning. The crappy part is that I’m going to be working tonight, so I won’t be able to do it then, either. I know I need to just get over it.

On the positive side– 1. we are FINALLY getting some rain. Hopefully it will cool things down for a minute. 2. It is Wednesday. Only two more days until a weekend, in which neither Reagan or myself have any commitments marked. This means that we can do whatever we want! 3. I shot a pretty cool thing for Oakley last night. I included a few of my faves above and below. I used to have a pair of Frogskins in high school. I loved them. 4. If you love Piper, be sure to check out some super adorable video of her practicing walking, over on Reagan’s Blob.

Even though the weekend hasn’t officially started yet, it feels like it for me. Today is my day off from running, and my calendar is empty for today! As busy as this week was, it was also super productive. Yesterday afternoon, I was able to shoot a sneak peak of the Fall and Winter stuff that DC is putting out this year (see above for a teaser). It was one of those jobs that I was as excited about shooting, as I was to see what they are coming out with, this year.

Moving on– I received a call from Piper’s social worker yesterday, that someone from a long term care facility was visiting Blythedale and met Piper. I wasn’t exactly sure how to read the call, since it may mean nothing, for now. But it was one of those painful reminders that Piper cannot stay at Blythedale indefinitely. More on that as it develops (hopefully not anytime soon).

This weekend– As usual, we have a pretty packed agenda. Here is the rundown-

  1. Friday night: possibly deliver aquarium to a buyer. Sold Tina and some of the convicts this morning. It was really sad for me. But their new dad is as big of a fish nerd as me, so I know they will have a good home.
  2. Forget about the double down, Reagan is going to attempt to make us burger melts (Reagan’s would be a veggie burger, of course):
  3. Saturday morning: 16 Mile run, then visit Piper.
  4. Saturday evening: Shoot inaugural opening of the Hole Gallery, which will be taking the place of the Deitch Project, in SoHo. Then, dinner date with Reagy B.
  5. Sunday morning early: Trek to Governor’s Island for the Clicquot Classic Polo Match. The press check-in sheet said to bring a ladder and a long lens. I don’t have any ladders. Maybe I can borrow one from our super. Hahahaha. Should be interesting. It will be my first trip to Governor’s Island, this summer. I’m excited for it.
  6. Sunday afternoon: Attend a KAWS exhibit opening at the Aldrich Gallery in CT (hopefully with Reagan). Then visit Piper again, on the way home.
  7. Random additional item: I’m selling this Canon zoom lens. Email me if you are interested.

Pardon all of the list making that I have been doing lately. Sometimes it is the only way I can stay organized. Have a great weekend!!

I was in the park last night, doing what I like to do (playing with cameras). On the way out, I decided: “Since I’m here with my gear, why not grab a slow-shutter shot of the GW?” So, I grabbed the image below. For extra fun, check out the full resolution version here.

It is hot in the city, these days. Really hot. Even so, I’m tooootally ready to spend some time outside of the air conditioned office. There are a few notable items on the agenda for this weekend.

Friday evening: I’ll be attending/shooting the “Love and Guts” art show in SoHo. It is a tribute exhibit to several skaters that I grew up idolizing.

Saturday: Reagan’s sister and brother-in-law are coming to visit. I’m not exactly sure what Reagan has planned yet. But I’m sure it will be a good time.

Sunday: Japan Day race in the morning. I’m not running. But I would like to make it down there anyway, to cheer on my teammates who will be running. Then.. we will be hitting the Renegade Craft Fair at Mccarren Park in BK. I’m looking forward to that one, too. Let’s not forget that MotoGP is at Mugello, this weekend (Rossi’s home track).

Of course all of this will be intermixed with PJ visits, and watching the BP cam. But, that goes without saying. Hehe

Starting off a bit random– I have been encountering so many good female DJs lately. At an event Wednesday night, K Styles was spinning. She was actually tag teaming with Miss Saigon, who I saw at a Cavi runway show a couple of weeks ago. Nothing shameful about being told “you spin like a girl!” Anyway, go girl power!

This weekend is set to be a banger. I just landed a gig as a staff photographer for one of my favorite e-mags. I’m seriously insanely (I don’t use those terms loosely) stoked about it. I’ll be diving in head first, Friday night. Here is the agenda for the weekend:

Friday

  • Roa has a gallery opening at Factory Fresh, Friday night.
  • Afterward, we are going to a super secret Passion Pit show at a location that I could tell you, but then I would have to kill you. It’s kind of like Nick and Norah’s infinite playlist, except without the scavenger hunt, or the relationship drama. Hahahaha.

Saturday

  • Morning, we have a club points race 10k in CP to promote healthy kidneys. Amped about this, but lazily unprepared for it. I may as well kiss my 40 min. goal goodbye.
  • Afternoon, the usual antics with Piper and her roomies.
  • Night, my cousin Tif arrives in NYC for a stationery show, at which incidentally, our good friends Max&Bunny will be hosting a booth. Not sure if we will be able to hang out with Tif Saturday night, but we are going to give it a shot. At the very least maybe we will drop by her room at the Marquis so that we can covet the view from her window.

Sunday

  • Tif meets Piper

As if all of these niceties were not sufficient, I have it on good authority that Banksy will be in town (if he is not already here). Double crossing my fingers that I might have a chance encounter with some of his work and get some snaps, before it is ganked and auctioned away. I hope that everyone else also has an amazing weekend!

kiehlsearthday-2010-shotbyjake-com-6712

Even though I should have spent the evening picking up trash, planting trees and rescuing puppies, I went to a party, instead. I mentioned earlier this week about my friend Zach’s connex with Kiehl’s. Well, unfortunately Jeff Koons and Pharrell didn’t make it out to the party. But it was still a really good time.  I had a great time chatting it up with Zach, and the other guys shooting the event.

I also ran into/met Joanna, a blog-o-sphere friend for the first time, in person. I always wondered if it would be an awkward situation, when and if I ever met someone in person, who I had previously only come to know the online version of. As it turns out, it wasn’t awkward, at all. I’m sure it helped matters that we have some mutual (real life-o-sphere) friends in common. Reagan and I have both been reading her page, since she featured an item relating out our friends, a little over a year ago. Actually, Reagan was probably reading before that. Anyway, she is just as nice, cute and friendly in real life as you would expect her to be, from reading her work.

Here are a few additional photos from the party:
